Do not hang any frame near or above radiators, or other sources of heat, such as a Wood burning stove, open fire place, wall mounted heater etc. as paper and wood will dry out and adhesives including adhesive tapes, will fail.
Avoid humid conditions, bathrooms and kitchens are rooms to avoid if you can. These conditions can cause paper to ripple and stick to glass, which can result in your artwork being ruined. It can also attract fungal growth, often appearing as brown stains.
If you are sure you want to place your artwork in these rooms, then please advise Artwork Creations in advance and we will take all necessary steps to protect your artwork. Conservation framing will certainly slow down these effects and sealing the framing, will help enormously.
Most artwork is best appreciated at eye level. If you have a group of pictures, it can be a good idea to align their top edges. It is not necessary to make them symmetrical, although that often works well, but they should follow some overall design.
It’s often a good idea to lay the pictures on the floor first and move them around until you have a pleasing design.
It is of paramount importance, that your valuable pictures are hung securely on the wall. Remember, often pictures fall off walls, not because the fixings or cord are of poor quality, but because the walls themselves are not sound-perhaps the plaster has blown, so do check the soundness of the walls first.
In general you should use 2 hooks for each frame and make sure the appropriate strength cord or wire is used. We recommend the use of quality framers cord rather than wire, as wire is known to corrode and fail. Where safety is important e.g. Children’s bedrooms, public spaces, use security fittings, acrylic or laminated glass.
Lightly dust frames and avoid the use of water or cleaning fluids. If you are going to use a glass cleaner, apply it to a duster first and then wipe.
out of the light
Sunlight/bulbs fade colours, discolours paper and makes paper and materials go brittle.
(UV-coated glass can help to slow this down)
