mountboard options
Mountboards or mounts (called Matboards in the US) serve 2 main functions:-
To create a ‘space’ between the item being framed and the glass
To visually enhance the overall look.
Without a mountboard, Artwork can often look ‘pinched’ or ‘squeezed’, whereas a mountboard provides space and is much easier on the eye.
advice
It is always best advice to prevent glass from touching your artwork, as often, with changes in humidity, moisture can condense on the inside of the glass.
If the moisture touches the artwork, it can result in irreversible damage. The simple use of a mountboard can prevent this.
colour theory
Many people including artists and photographers are aware of colour theory and the general rules of what tends to work and what does not.
Colour can be played with and the colour of a mountboard can be chosen to compliment, contrast, or highlight colours within the image being framed.
design
The general rule is to chose a framing design to match the artwork, however, an interior designer may chose artwork and the framing design to compliment their colour schemes. This can be done subtly through the choice of mount colour.
The frame design can go much further with the use of double, treble or multiple mounts, creative mount cutting, inlays, painted bevelled edges or colour core mounts, deep bevels, the options are endless.
range
The range of mountboard options available in the market place in terms of colour, quality and function is vast.
We have carefully chosen what we and the industry leaders believe to be the highest quality available, namely Alphamat Artcare.
The collection has a vast choice of colours, textures and surfaces and provides the highest protection from pollutants, whilst being fade, age and bleed resistant.
By providing Artcare mountboards as standard, we are offering your artwork protection from deterioration, yellowing and ageing.
benefits
Fade Resistant – Artcare boards use 100% pigmented surface papers so the colours you choose will not fade away as other mountboards can.
Bleed Resistant – Artcare board colours are stable and will not bleed onto your images even in very humid conditions.
Age Resistant – Artcare’s molecular traps and buffers built inot the paper structure neutralise the harmful pollutants that cause ageing and damage to prints, pictures, watercolours, photographs in fact all types of art media and even newsprint.
Artcare Filter – Artcare traps and neutralise air-bourne acids and free acids, acting as a filter to protect the image.
Most mountboards being sold in the UK today, including so called ‘conversion’ boards, still contain highly damaging levels of acid (lignin) because they use cheaper recycled pulp in all or parts of the board.
“Paul framed a map for me, just before Christmas…. he managed to pull out all the stops and do a marvellous job… The quality and detail of his work is exemplary and he is such a nice, decent person to deal with. I’m a very happy customer.”
Neil Armstrong
“Massive thank you for the outstanding work that you have done in mounting my medals. I would never have imagined that they could look quite so spectacular and I was truly overwhelmed! You really have a talent… thanks a million!”
Chris
“We are delighted with the transformations your clever work has achieved… In the case of the ‘Venice’ pastel, the result is particularly brilliant, turning what after all is a rather modest work, into a piece of art I’m rather proud now to exhibit.”

“Thought you would like to know, my husband and boys were blown away with the pictures you framed, they are going to take pride of place in our lounge, many many thanks!”
